Highlights from Malja’s third monthly Open Mic night
“Music is a force that bonds us to one another in times of hardship and joy, often in spite of the barriers that can separate us.” Gina Chavez and her band held an introduction into the art of songwriting workshop, mainly presented in two sections: rhythm/movement and melody/rhyme. They then left time at the end of the workshop for questions, jamming sessions, and for the participants to share their own musical work.
Gina Chavez, an American Musician who is visiting Bahrain briefly in December, is a bilingual Latin-folk singer/songwriter from Austin, Texas. Her latest independent release, Up.Rooted, is a passionate collection of bilingual songs traversing cumbia, bossa nova, vintage pop, reggaeton, and folk combined with dynamic vocals and sharp social commentary.
