Call Out II

On Saturday, May 14, 2016, Malja celebrated the launch of its second annual open-concept open-call exhibition, Call Out II. The exhibition will run from May 14 to July 9, 2016.

Malja – A Red Bull Space conventionally provides a platform for curators to exhibit works by the best local and regional artists under a unified theme that is both innovative and thought-provoking. Once a year, however, the Malja Bahrain team endeavor to find new artists and new pieces of work purely for their individual concepts and executions, inviting all kinds of creatives to apply to an open-concept exhibition without thematic restrictions. With the help of visual artist and curator, Ramah AlHusseini, this search has led to the creation of a conceptually diverse group exhibition, celebrating the new work of veteran participants alongside new up-and-coming artists in the region.

“In conceptual art, the idea or concept is the most important aspect of the work. When an artist uses a conceptual form of art, it means that all of the planning and decisions are made beforehand and the execution is a perfunctory affair. The idea becomes a machine that makes the art.”
